We Must Tell

Gary C. Hampton

We are surrounded by opportunities to tell the good news of God’s plan of salvation: neighbors, friends, coworkers, fellow students or just someone showing obvious signs of despair. Each of us needs to be driven to see those open doors and speak a good word for Jesus.

People need to hear that their salvation is a part of God’s plan. Jesus’ death on the cross, in which He shed His blood, was in the mind of God before He laid the foundation of the world (1 Peter 1:18–21; Ephesians 3:8–11). Calvary was no surprise to the Father; it was part of His plan to save (Acts 2:23).

Jesus was given all authority (1 Corinthians 15:27a). He commanded His followers to teach all nations while they were going. Teaching would result in some becoming disciples of Christ through baptism (Matthew 28:18–20). Individuals are given the choice to yield to Christ’s authority now or before God’s judgment bar (Philippians 2:9–11).

We must tell because everyone needs to hear. Jesus’ marching orders to His followers are set forth in Matthew, as we have seen, as well as in Mark 16:15–16 and Luke 24:46–47. Luke gave one more account of it when he told Theophilus a portion of the Master’s parting words (Acts 1:8).

The message of salvation is the means of God uniting the world. Jews and Gentiles become part of one body when they obey His commands (Ephesians 2:13–16). The Lord anticipated that unity when He said, “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd” (John 10:16 NKJV).

It is the work of every Christian to tell the good news. Each of us should ask ourselves, “Am I seizing every opportunity to tell?”
